Nightlife in Cardiff

Cardiff has a compact nightlife scene with a mix of mainstream clubs, independent live music venues, and a growing electronic music culture. The city covers genres including indie, alternative, rock, house, techno, drum and bass, folk, and Welsh-language music. Cardiff nightlife is concentrated in a walkable city centre, with the busiest nights on Fridays and Saturdays.

Womanby Street is the heart of Cardiff's independent music scene, home to Clwb Ifor Bach — the city's most important grassroots venue, running three floors of gigs and club nights. St Mary Street and the surrounding area have the main concentration of mainstream clubs and late-night bars. Tramshed is a converted tramway depot hosting larger gigs and club events.

Cardiff has a large student population keeping midweek events active. Match days — particularly for rugby at the Principality Stadium — bring a distinct surge in nightlife activity. Sŵn Festival in October is a multi-venue showcase for new music. The Motorpoint Arena handles arena-scale touring acts.
