The Lubber Fiend
79-83 Blandford Street
4th installment in our ongoing Kitchen gig series! Its a real joy to programme this small and intimate space and to be able to offer food from Lubber Kitchen alongside.
For this one we very excited to welcome Leyden Jars, label bosses for the brilliant Goods Outward, and incredible musicians themselves.
"Put simply, Leyden Jars' sound is an experimental one, never lapsing into cheap noise tropes or tepid ambience. Truly experimental, in that it is adventurous and never sits still, always searching. Occasionally difficult, sure, but not lacking in regular glistens of beauty interspersed on the path throughout. The end result revealing something of a confluence, wherein various strains of folk, DIY electronics and sound art idioms comfortably coalesce."
We also have Craig playing solo on support!
Craig Stewart Johnson makes sounds which are pre-occupied with activities that occur in the in-between spaces of the quotidian, focussing in on the nuance of the often overlooked aspects of everyday lives. Using field recordings, tapes and an assortment of musical and non-musical objects, his work is ephemeral yet rooted in place - hinting at somewhere not quite legible but nevertheless concrete. Expect snippets of barely parsed sentences and overheard conversation, fragmented instrumentation and disjointed recordings of every space - all layered into an improvised assemblage of abstract sound.
As usual you can buy a ticket for the music but you can also get a ticket that includes some food from Lubber Kitchen. Why would you not get the food as well? In our opinion its by far the best option!
