On Sunday 19th July we’re collaborating with Jordan’s Mayss and the Arab Group For The Protection of Nature for a special all day, two floor fundraising event for the Revive Gaza Farmland project.
After October 7, the Israeli occupation tightened its siege on Gaza, closing all crossings and blocking the entry of regulated humanitarian aid trucks. The occupation targeted agricultural lands and facilities, first through bombing, then by bulldozing. Today, more than two million people in Gaza continue to suffer from hunger and food insecurity, with half a million on the brink of starvation.
The Revive Gaza Farmland initiative works to rehabilitate devastated agricultural land and rebuild local food systems in Gaza. In a place where over 95% of farmland has been systematically destroyed, leaving over two million people facing food insecurity - and where food is weaponised to subjugate and displace - the act of farming becomes an act of resistance.
APN launched their "Revive Gaza's Farmland" project in 2024, at the height of the genocide, as an urgent response to farmers determined to restore local food production and counter the starvation campaign from within. To date, the project has supported 1,371 farmers in cultivating 2,294 dunums, producing over 13 million kilograms of fresh produce. They have also rehabilitated vital infrastructure, including 20 greenhouses, 8 wells, 3950 meters of water pipelines, and beehives. To restore staple food production and the livelihoods that depend on it, they further support fisherfolk and poultry production, and have launched initiatives to plant 30,000 olive and fruit trees and return wheat to Gaza's fields.
These are Gaza's farmers, breaking the siege with every harvest, restoring local food systems that can resist weaponisation, and planting toward liberation. Their efforts in Gaza follow 25 years of green resistance in pursuit of food sovereignty, starting with The Million Tree Campaign (MTC), through which they have planted over 3.17 million fruit trees across Palestine among various other agricultural projects, supporting over 38,000 farmers. They continue to plant and resist under the slogan, “They uproot one…we plant ten.”
Upstairs in TOPP there’ll be a photo exhibition of the project so far, titled “A story of victory in Gaza”, call with the APN and video screening about their project and the food insecurity in Gaza. Our own Konstantina Mavrommati will lead a conversation with Mayss about her decision to work with the APN, as well as a playback of the ‘Letters To The Sun’ compilation, curated by Mayss and released on her Dreaming Live label. Featuring tracks from vital voices in electronic music and the poems of Fatma Al Jabari, a poet in Gaza writing throughout the genocide, the compilation serves to rally artists and listeners in solidarity and support.
Meanwhile in renae, there will be an Art Market during the day followed by a night of DJs curated by Mcr4Pal, including two hour sets from both Mayss and more to be announced.
In Gaza, planting a seed is more than growing food, it's an act of resilience and hope. Join us at this fundraiser and play your part.
