Sprachkörper is a performance by artist and electronic musician Leonard Maassen. Situated in a field of poetic diary entries in German and English, the piece treats this personal archive as an emotionally charged, unstable material, navigated live through voice and modular synthesis. Developed for 10-channel audio spatialization during a residency at Lake, it treats the performance space itself as an instrument and the 3D movement of sound as an active compositional parameter.
Leonard Maassen (b. 1998, Paris) is a German artist working across music, spatial audio, writing, and film. His work investigates how place, memory and environmental change register in sensory experience through site-specific interventions and spatial sound composition.
Recent projects include Re-Synthesis of a Ritual Space, a sound installation commissioned by The Marchus Trust for Durham Cathedral in collaboration with Idrîsî Ensemble, and compositions for Tomas van Houtryve's installation Terrifying Sublime: Synthetic Alpine Landscapes. His work has also been presented at Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan, and as part of the Alfred Töpfer Stiftung's Art School Alliance programme in Hamburg.
Maassen holds a Master of Composition in Electronic and Produced Music from Guildhall School of Music & Drama and a BA in Geography from the University of Oxford. He is a former Junior Fellow at Guildhall and an Amoenus Spatial Audio resident at IKLECTIK, London.
