Gathered

Gathered: The NYC to London Soulful Lineage

Gathered – A community gathered around sound

We are putting a proper, heavy-analogue vinyl system into Ballucci in Hounslow for an eight-hour session tracking the real transatlantic history of soulful dance music. There are no pretentions, no dress codes, and no club prices—just a direct line from the foundational sounds of the US East Coast straight through to London’s early 90s soulful house movement.

The Sonic Timeline:

16:00 – 18:00 | Open Decks: Vinyl-only open deck slots (20 mins each). First come, first served—sign up on the chalkboard from 16:00. Music policy is strictly early-to-mid 80s Jazz-Funk, Soul, and Boogie to set the afternoon tone.

18:00 – 19:00 | The Roots: Continuing the early 80s groove featuring definitive catalog releases from labels like Atlantic, Prelude, West End, Salsoul, and Solar.

19:00 – Midnight | The Evolution: Shifting into a classic 90s house sound palette. Tracking the raw electronic and spiritual vocal heritage born across New York, New Jersey, and Chicago, right through to the UK underground. Expect heavy nods to Strictly Rhythm, Movin’ Records, Shelter Records, Partners Inc., Nervous, and Nu Groove—alongside newer independent vinyl releases that fully encapsulate that definitive production vibe.

The Record Market & Free Ultrasonic Cleaning:

From 16:00, up to 6 independent record sellers will be in the room with boxes of records to browse through. Pitching is 100% free of charge to support the local vinyl community. We are also setting up a MaquiGra motorized ultrasonic record cleaner in the lounge. Bring a few records down from home and run them through a deep-groove cavitation wash free of charge while you grab a drink and look through the boxes.

Want to sell records? Reserve one of the 6 free weekly pitch slots by sending a direct message on Instagram to @Gathered.Vinyl.

The Setup:

Meticulously engineered for absolute playback quality rather than aggressive, ear-fatiguing volume. The room is tuned for full-spectrum, rich, clean sound so you can browse, sit, have a proper drink, and actually talk without shouting.

Decks: Twin refurbished, period-correct Technics SL1200 Mk2s ('87 & '88) with low-capacitance RCA mods.

Mixer: Union Audio Orbit 4 rotary.

Sound: Peavey power driving a balanced Wharfedale EVP-X top, mid, and sub stack.
