AudioSpaces at Raleigh Chapel

AudioSpaces finally reaches beyond the screen to explore sound, space and memory in Stoke Newington's Raleigh Chapel. An evening of sonic culture "beyond the stage": live performance, sound archives, movement and playfulness across the chapel’s two beautiful rooms.

The programme features three unique artists in sonic dialogue:

Composer and bandoneonist Juan Pablo de Lucca performs work from his new release BUENOS 4IRES, which explores how tango is experienced as movement, space and urban memories. This will be performed alongside a participatory tango workshop, with the guidance of London-based tango instructor Martín Espíndola, involving dancing, archival recordings and AudioSpaces' global tango sound map.

Dee Sada brings her new work Sonic Archives: Waterline, built from field recordings of London’s waterways and reworked through electronics, cassette and live radio. The work crosses the boundaries between the physical space of the chapel and the virtual cartophonic archive on the AudioSpaces platform, while also being broadcast simultaneously on her acclaimed Resonance FM show For the Lost.

Finally, Cristiana Palandri presents Ouroboros, an interactive sculpture that allows attendees to physically shape and move sound through the chapel by squeezing, bending and tilting its crystal-like forms. The Ouroboros uses the chapel’s reverberant architecture as part of the composition, reviving traditions of spatialised sacred music through a tactile, contemporary interface.
