About this event

In 2019 John Law and Jon Lloyd, two jazz and improvising musicians who have been playing and recording together since the 1990’s, started John’s new project Renaissance, playing improvised saxophone and keyboard lines over ambient looped samples of renaissance sacred vocal music, accompanied by a live visual artist. This toured in UK cathedrals and churches from 2019 - 2022.

Now, as a pared down duo, they present: Naissance. Covering some of the music from Renaissance - mixing live acoustic piano and keyboards with backing track samples - and adding to that some of their original, minimalist compositions. The result is one of interactive lines, like a conversation, with the emphasis on beauty and form.

2025 sees the release of their duo album: Naissance. Music that explores Beauty, Space and Silence. Music of meditative energy.

Naissance

“Sounds like the only music you ever want to hear” Jon Turney, London Jazz News

“Music that trusted silence as much as sound...Naissance delivered an evening of rare grace and beauty; a reminder that the most powerful music experiences are sometimes the most quietly profound” Peter Neale, Shropshire Star

John Law: piano/keyboards/samples

“One of the UK’s most imaginative and versatile jazz pianists.” International Piano Magazine

Jon Lloyd: tenor and soprano saxophones

“A delivery as persuasive as a speaking voice.” Penguin Guide to Jazz
