Afrobeat was created by Fela Kuti in Nigeria — long, polyrhythmic compositions blending jazz, funk, and West African music. Modern afrobeats (note the 's') is a different thing — Afrobeats is the contemporary pop genre from West Africa. Events might feature either or both.
