In The ࿓ Spirit ࿓ of EXIT

"As most of you know, I am completely obsessed with tunes and with DJing, and since the beginning, I've always been interested in newness. The answer to a complex problem is often very simple in design, and this year has been a search for that.

The potential 'third tune' that comes out of a blend is still the sickest thing to me, that bridge that forms from two tunes where both directions matter as much as each other.

I began to look at 'In The Spirit Of' as a branch, but in Glasgow, I now see it as another fixed point, and I'm very happy to be collaborating with Exit as one of them, the other being Subclub which stays where it is. After a summer of chatting with JJ, I am inspired by their commitments towards actualising ideas, and how he reps that in the way they get done, and using these two points as a bridge to explore and present ideas is the exact kind of application spirit needs to find something new, which I think is beneficial for these dances in both spaces, and good practice in general - contrast always shows you something you can't already see.

The considerations around the sonics are the same - Exit's system gets new parts bolted on, like a transformer - DIY subs built by Sam McDermott, out of the workshop for the first time, running with Funktion One tops. Warm, deep and big, from all angles.

One thing I like about Exit, which I'm sure a lot of you do too, is the strong community around it and that Charlotte and Rowan aka The Libras are coming into it with us. They've spent enough time working and playing to guide me, this project, and the rest of us, to where it needs to go.

We decided that DJ Plead would be a suitable first guest and I think he has written the Album Of The Year. Personally, I can't stop listening to it. It feels like tunes I would take voice recordings of in a taxi, trying to capture some sort of magic that I have no idea what to do with but can't bring myself to pass on. I think he has something special in store so it should be a sick one, on September 12th.

All the tunes I love travel in a particular way, and like them, I want to keep doing this as much as possible, with as many people as possible, keeping the momentum up.
