In the 1960’s jazz was exploding. Artists like John Coltrane were amassing a devoted following playing free, avant-garde music and as American musicians started looking west, collaborations with artists from various African and Asian countries brought about a new way of making music, rooted in the use of music as a spiritual practice. The past 10 years have seen a revival of spiritual jazz with artists like Ganavya and Shabaka Hutchings breathing new life into the genre.
Mark is one half of Greenhouse Records and host of The Pickle Community Radio. Their passion for music and its connections with culture and people has led them down many a rabbit hole, picking up songs and stories from around the world.
With a new theme each month, the listening sessions will focus on music that is not only beautiful to listen to but that also tells a story about the time and place in which it was made. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the music!
