Whether shaping the early New York loft party scene through Dinosaur L and proto-house cameos like “Is It All Over My Face,” the raw, emotional minimalism on World of Echo, or crafting the drum machine-laced dance-country-pop he is perhaps best known for, Russell always followed his own instinct.
The constant throughout his work was a restless, intimate vision that still echoes through dance music, and he is cited as an influence by many contemporary artists today.
