We’re very excited to welcome Mr Bongo DJs back to Grow for a special 4-hour extended DeepDig set. After the incredible energy they brought last year, we knew we had to do it again. This time, they return on Bank Holiday Sunday, 30 August, for a long-form journey through the full Mr Bongo sound.
Since opening as a Soho record shop in 1989, Mr Bongo has become one of the UK’s most respected names in global music, known for digging, reissuing and sharing essential sounds from Brazil, Latin America, Africa, the Caribbean and far beyond.
Behind the decks, that deep knowledge turns into soulful, high-energy dancefloor journeys. Expect rare Brazilian grooves, deep disco, modern soul, gospel, house, funk, jazz and plenty of records that move between genres with ease.
This is exactly what DeepDig is about: trusted selectors, longer sets and music that has room to breathe. Having taken the Mr Bongo sound to festivals and dancefloors around the world, this is a rare chance to hear them stretch out properly in an intimate canalside space.
Opening the evening on our terrace, Liminal People, Alfie and Paloma, set the tone with deep, soulful and psychedelic selections. Their sets drift through obscure disco, ecstatic house, leftfield grooves and offbeat dancefloor gems, always led by warmth, feeling and curiosity.
A full Bank Holiday Sunday of deep digging, global rhythms and open-minded dancefloor energy by the canal.
