“Part Taoist riddle, part lone-gun-man manifesto” is how Australian band Sex Mask described their first single in early 2025, and things have only got more winding, intellectual, and satisfyingly constructed since then. That art-school vibe is tempered by a restrained approach to riffs – they kind of sound like The Strokes if The Strokes were about 1000% less self-conscious. But the best way to experience them is live: urgent, propulsive, and so much fun.
