BREAK EVEN returns to Leeds for a dance with IG CULTURE on the legendary Cosmic Slop Sound System!
We’re super excited to be joined by IG CULTURE, a selector and producer widely regarded as the Godfather of the Broken Beat movement. Co-founder of the legendary Coop Club at London’s Plastic People, he’s one half of NameBrandSound, alongside Alex Phountzi (formerly of Bugz In The Attic). With releases on Ninja Tune and Arena Yard, their blend of footwork, dancehall, rare groove, and broken beat, known as their ‘brukwurks’ style, has been at the centre of London’s underground scene for almost two decades.
Fresh off the back of playing at Houghton festival last summer, IG has also graced the stages of We Out Here, All Points East, Sunfall, Dimensions, and Boiler Room with his Coop Presents event. You can now catch IG weekly on London's Rinse FM, where he co-hosts CoOp Presents with Alex Phountzi.
Warming up for IG will be WILL MACKENZIE, London based selector and co-founder of Homework events, he’ll be spinning some percussive house and soulful grooves to get the night going.
Then we will be joined by local upcoming DJ and Producer, ANDY DALY. Having released tracks with the Brighter Days Family, Andy’s signature blend of Reggae, Dub, Broken Beat and House will be sure to light up the dance.
Closing the night will be Break-Even co-founder, HENRY SEARS, spinning some Bruk, UK Funky and Soulful House.
Hope House is home to the legendary Cosmic Slop Sound System, dubbed the finest in the world by Floating Points, and a revered venue for underground heroes from Luke Una to Giles Peterson. An instrumental part of the inspiration behind Break Even, the space operates by day as MAP Charity, supporting young people who can't access mainstream education. All profits from our night will go to supporting their vital work.
See you there!
