forma: Ehua, LWS, Dom Carlo & severine

Forma returns to The Island this October for the first edition of its new four-part residency, bringing together Ehua and LWS.

This edition brings together two artists who approach club music from different angles, but share an interest in taking familiar sounds somewhere less predictable. Both Ehua and LWS move fluidly between techno, bass, electro and more experimental forms, with rhythm and sound design at the centre of their work.

London-based Italian producer, DJ and vocalist Ehua has developed a sound that is difficult to pin down, but immediately recognisable. Her productions are built from intricate percussion, shifting tempos and detailed sound design.

With releases across Nervous Horizon, TraTraTrax, 3024, Exit Records, Ninja Tune and SVBKVLT, her music is constantly in motion. Percussion twists around heavy bass, melodic fragments appear and disappear, and rhythms shift unexpectedly without losing their physical pull. Her DJ sets carry the same instinct for movement, connecting different tempos, textures and rhythmic structures into something that feels cohesive without being predictable.

Scottish producer and DJ LWS has been carving out his own corner of the UK underground with a sound that is chaotic, percussive and elusive. His productions pull apart techno, electro, IDM and bass music, finding strange angles within familiar club structures.

With releases on TraTraTrax, Peder Mannerfelt Production and Matrice Recordings, his music is maximalist in detail but never loses its physicality. Rhythms stutter, textures collide and things rarely settle where you expect them to. His recent Mixmag The Mix moves through deeper grooves, fractured percussion and heavier moments with a natural sense of progression.

Setting the tone - is resident Dom Carlo and forma head severine. Dom Carlo's stripped-back approach to UK bass draws on sub-heavy rhythms, precise percussion and the deeper end of Bristol's soundsystem tradition. severine's selections move between warped percussion, metallic textures, dubstep, techno, electro and experimental club music.

We return to the city’s favourite stripped-back rooms: low ceilings, a heavy system provided by AMBER AUDIO, and no distractions. Specialised lighting will be designed by Occyx. There is no better place for this than The Island - industrial yet intimate, a stripped-back former police station that has long been the backbone of Bristol’s underground scene.

Forma is built around artists who are pushing club music somewhere slightly unfamiliar while keeping a connection to the physicality of the dancefloor. This edition is another step in that direction.
