What it is
OFFLINE STATE is a recurring Tuesday open-decks club night at After Dark. No bookings, no headliners, no lineup announced in advance. Anyone can play, anyone can come. Bring a USB, get a 20-minute set, find your collective, start one, or just dance.
For Session 003, we’re hosting a special guest performance from Modernotaku.
Special guest: Modernotaku
Sheikh Mumtahina Mehzabin Afrin, known as Modernotaku, is one of Bangladesh’s most distinctive new voices. She first emerged with Dhaka band False Cassette, having trained in Indian classical music from the age of seven. Her recorded work blends Bengali traditional with indie pop and electronic, drawing on the lineage of Lalon, the Bengali mystic poet she names as her main influence.
In 2025 she became one of Coke Studio Bangla’s breakout artists with “Long Distance Love”, a duet with Ankan Kumar that broke into the mainstream across Bangladesh and the South Asian diaspora.
For OFFLINE STATE, she’s stepping into something new: a hyperpop DJ set. Hyperpop, future bass, electro pop, synth-pop, nightcore, bubblegum bass and dance-pop, potentially shifting into funk and basslines as the night goes on.
For British Bengali audiences, this is a chance to see Modernotaku live in a club setting, doing something most of her listeners haven’t heard her do yet. For everyone else, this is a window into what’s coming out of Dhaka right now, played on a proper rig in a proper venue. Bristol’s underground has always been built by diasporic communities. This session is part of that lineage.
How it works
Doors at 8pm. Open decks sign-up when you arrive. 20 minute sets, first come first serve, alongside the special guest performance. Bring a USB to play, go back to back with strangers, hear producers showing off tracks before they’re released.

Hyperpop. Future bass. Electro pop. Synth-pop. Nightcore. Bubblegum bass. Dance-pop. Possibly funk and basslines later.
The venue
After Dark is a beautiful new venue in Bristol city centre. Multiple rooms, places to dance and to sit and chat. Premium bar with fair prices. Intimate lighting throughout. Capacity 180.
A safe space for everyone. Centred for FLINTA, queer, POC, immigrant DJs and anyone new to Bristol. Open to everyone else who gets why that needed saying.
